Do I need to apply through my doctor?
Not surprisingly, many doctors worldwide are not fully aware of treatments available outside their own countries. Referrals through national health insurers can be difficult or impossible and even for private patients there is understandably a reluctance to recommend centres abroad, with which they are not familiar.
There is a tendency to ask for detailed track records of each centre for any particular medical condition, but of course with relatively new treatment methodologies this is often impossible to provide. However with over 200 systems installed worldwide (source: Accuray) it is possible to take a more global approach, based upon the capabilities of the CyberKnife treatment system.
Whilst enquiries from doctors are most welcome, some centres do allow you to apply for yourself and MHL maikes this process easier and more effective.
How are cases selected for treatment?
You will find guidelines on the general principles adopted as well as details of of types of cases accepted by the separate CyberKnife centres in our service, in our website www.cyberknifeservice.com.
Is CyberKnife right for me?
Our global web site www.cyberknifeservice.com offers a practical guide to the general benefits and present limitations of CyberKnife and how it may relate to different conditions, with useful downloads and links to international medical charities and other resources.
There is no charge for submitting an enquiry through our service.
Where can I obtain advice?
As with any medical treatment, you should consider the implications carefully and discuss with your doctor how well suited CyberKnife may be for your particular case. Since your doctor may still be unfamiliar with CyberKnife radiosurgery, you should be prepared to provide information before your consultation, in order to assist discussion.
MHL provides information on CyberKnife and other non-invasive technologies but we do not advise on individual cases. We do not recommend CyberKnife over other forms of treatment and we have no financial relationship with the manufacturers.
Our website www.cyberknifeservice.com gives you the benefit of our years of experience in handling CyberKnife enquiries. You can also download our MHL Letter to Doctors, MHL Letter to Insurers and find links to CyberKnife Treatment Guides and the manufacturer's CyberKnife Patient Forum.
